After missing last year due to Covid, The 7th Annual Blues For The Red Door IS BACK!
Our founder and driving force, BIG RUDE JAKE will not be able to host this year’s event due to health reasons, but he’s still very much involved in the background so that Blues For The Red Door can continue with the important work of supporting The Red Door Family Shelter.
Jake is handing off the duties of emcee to the very capable and talented JOHNNY MAX: At the helm of the Johnny Max Band, Johnny is a frontman who is not afraid to jump into the audience and get them going. The Johnny Max Band is celebrating their 25th Anniversary with 7 albums, 2 JUNO Award nominations, multiple Maple Blues award nominations and working on two new albums (studio and live). The JMB is a groovy New Orleans/Memphis style Blues horn band playing Blues & R& B, that makes you want to get up and dance! It is all about the music, not the solos. It is all about the groove and the move!
THE FABULOUS BRD HOUSE BAND
MARGARET STOWE: Guitarist Margaret Stowe performs all over Canada and Europe and has recorded and performed with a host of Canadian/International artists. "Stowe's departure point is jazz, but her style ranges from folk to blues to world beats, propelled by her trademark high energy and eclectic tastes." Prague Post. She received the 2009 CIUT FM Porcupine Lenny Breau Award and was recently interviewed and performed on both Vallee FM Radio Paris France and Radio Nacional de Espana Madrid. She is listed in the Canadian Encyclopedia of Music under “guitarists of note” and, more importantly, is in yeahbaby.com list of celebrity baby names. Margaret performs original multi-stylistic jazz-based music from her 4 CDs at festivals and events and she can also be found playing shows with diverse artists such as Big Rude Jake, Max Woolaver, Mose Scarlett, Priscilla Wright, Sonya Cote, Susan Wylde, Brenda Lewis and the Blues Fuse, and several other artists. She also plays as a guitar duo in Canada with Tony Quarrington and in Europe with German jazz guitarist Barbara Jungfer and Paris guitarist Sean Gourley. Her Adventures of the Red Guitar CD features several esteemed guests including Harry Manx and Richard Underhill and her MELLO JELLO CD features just Margaret on guitars, playing some familiar cover tunes and new originals. Highly reviewed! You'll love it.
MICHELLE JOSEF: Occasionally the Great Spirit grants an individual the opportunity to reincarnate without actually dying. Such is the case with Michelle Josef. She is the present day incarnation of drummer Bohdan Hluszko who gave up his identity to become Michelle in September 1997. To many, she is both a newcomer and an old friend. The name and form may have changed, but the sparkle in the eye, the bite in the humour, and the passion in the playing will be familiar. Celebrating her third decade as a professional musician, Michelle brings a wealth of playing experience as well as a unique perspective on life.
"When Michelle Josef performed in an all-star tribute to the late Canadian folk singer Kate McGarrigle- in a band that backed up Rufus and Martha Wainwright, Emmylou Harris, Bruce Cockburn, and Broken Social Scene among others- one of the performers, Robert Charlebois, said to her: “You’re not one drummer, you’re five drummers – a folk drummer, a rock drummer, a jazz drummer, etc.” Considering the caliber of musicians she was working with, she took that as high praise." Angela Smith for Tom Tom Magazine

Carrie’s hard hitting funk band FAT LUCYs music has been described as soulful tight and muscular. Toronto Blues Society-Women’s Blues Revue Band
JUSTINE FISCHER: One of the busiest bass players to grace stages across the country. Justine is a multi talented musician who is equally at home with an accordion as she is with her electric bass or her "skinny bitch" upright.
Currently playing bass with Matty Simpson Band, Logan Staats, Raoul & the Big Time, Ginger St. James, Mary Simon, Spencer Mackenzie & a bunch of other acts in her spare time.
